Could underfloor radiant heating cause expansion, thus leading to the lifting of the covering?

There are expansion joints that must be installed around the perimeter of the rigid structures against which the system will rest, and intermediate expansion joints, which must be planned according to the type of covering, the surface area, and the layout of the rooms.

Until recently, even the specific standard for radiant systems prescribed guidelines on where to create these joints, but in its latest revision this requirement has been removed.

Today, the sizing of the joints is delegated to other standards, as well as to the experience and knowledge of the technician responsible for the system.

Fortunately, thanks to the reduction in the water temperatures required to heat buildings and the increasing experience of companies regarding the need to create joints and where to place them, the occurrence of covering lifting, even localized, is a “rare exception”.
