If you want to change the floor covering where a dry system is present, is there a risk of breaking the pipes of the radiant circuit?

Without oversimplifying, generally the replacement of tiles coincides with a major renovation of the home.

In this case, it is often an operation that would make it advisable to also redo the system due to “reached age limits”, not necessarily physical, but also just for the level of technological advancement.

That said, it is pointless to hide the fact that the risk of damaging the pipes exists, as with any system.

This consideration, also in keeping with the concept of “dry” construction and after verifying the expected performance of the system, could encourage the adoption of completely dry floors, such as floating parquet, or floors laid in a decoupled manner, such as glued parquet on our RBM Phonofix underlay.

In the case of glued tiles, if it is necessary to replace one or more of them due to breakage, by working carefully, it is possible to carry out the replacement without damaging the pipes.

In the unfortunate event that this should still occur, there are pipe repair kits available.

If the intervention is invasive, such as the complete replacement of ceramic flooring for aesthetic reasons, to avoid the risk of having to replace the system as well, the ideal solution could be to consider coating the tiles with a resin.

Thanks to its negligible thickness, the resin could achieve the same result, at significantly lower costs.
