What should be done if a radiant circuit (coil) breaks?
First of all, it should be noted that these are fortunately extremely rare events and almost always related to the installation of other elements carried out after the screed has been laid. Generally, the first step is to immediately close the circuit using the shut-off devices located on the manifold, in order to stop the leak.
Subsequently, the construction company removes the portion of flooring and screed around the break point, and the plumber installs a repair fitting on the pipe, following the component manufacturer's instructions.
It is therefore necessary to carry out a new pressure test on the system; once it is passed, the screed and flooring must be restored.
The standard would require the repair fitting installed under the surface to be left accessible for inspection, but we are aware that this is almost never feasible, especially for aesthetic reasons.
However, it is extremely important to keep documentation certifying the exact position of the repair fitting, in order to allow anyone to locate it in case of future need.
