Exhibition "The Macchiaioli"
Exhibition "The Macchiaioli"
RBM is sponsoring the exhibition "The Macchiaioli," which inaugurated the 2024 exhibition calendar at Palazzo Martinengo in Brescia.
Curated by Francesca Dini and Davide Dotti, the exhibition retraces one of the most original European artistic avant-gardes of the 19th century. Coined in 1862 in a derogatory sense, the term "Macchiaioli" defined those who challenged academic rules by promoting a renewal of Italian painting. The allusion was to the act of "macchia" as acting stealthily. Still, these innovative and progressive artists soon distinguished themselves for their lyrical and luminist skills and an intimate gaze on reality, including Risorgimento's anti-heroic and profoundly human vision.
The exhibition brings together over 100 works organized into ten thematic sections, including standout masterpieces such as Borrani's " Cucitrici di camicie rosse," Fattori's " Raccolta del fieno in maremma," Lega's " I fidanzati," and Signorini's " Pascoli a Castiglioncello.” Many works come from private and museum collections, including the Uffizi Galleries, the Museum of Science and Technology "Leonardo da Vinci" in Milan, the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, and the Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze Foundation.
The visit is a journey into the pictorial universe of this movement and a comparison with other European painting schools. It follows a visual path marked by achievements but also uncertainties, never losing the ability to question oneself and continue the search for progress.
Always sensitive to everything that represents and has represented the desire to innovate and progress - not only in the technological field - RBM is proud to support this critical artistic event.
The exhibition is open for visits until June 9, 2024.
